How to Use a Soil Test Meter

Collecting your soil test results is quite simple using a basic soil reading. Soil test meters are designed for ease of use, so it is no longer a challenge to quickly gather readings to determine the best soil conditions for your plants to grow. Obtaining a reading should tell you the most important growth factors, such as soil alkalinity, element levels, and phosphorus, nitrogen, and potash. In addition, you should quickly be able to determine the soil’s moisture content.

Taking Your Reading

Start by first collecting a few samples of soil from your desired area. This may be a garden, lawn, or patio area that you would like to sample. Placing your sample in a clean container, first measure a small amount into a distilled water sample. Then mix until you have acquired a basic muddy consistency for your soil content.

Next, go ahead and let the water and soil mix until fully congealed. At this point, you should let the sample sit for five to ten minutes.
