at the European Geosciences Union in Vienna, April 13-18, 2008. Soil Organic Matter Decomposition: the impact of land management practices Soil organic matter and the processes that govern decomposition are critical to maintaining site productivity, nutrient and water supplies, soil aggregation, and plant disease incidence or prevention. Organic matter decomposition is controlled by site water balances, nutrients, pH, and temperature. It is also greatly affected by land management practices, which vary greatly according to management objectives, climatic regimes and soil properties. The effect of management on organic matter decomposition and resulting soil carbon sequestration is an important factor in global climate change scenarios. We invite contributions on organic matter decomposition – land use related topics. If enough interest is shown, we would like to have selected papers published as a special issue in a soil, ecology, or land management journal.
