| A
special plea from the Soils Science Society of America Website Task
Force... If you teach classes or have the ability to get people, particularly non-soils people, to take this survey, the website committee of the SSSA needs your help. This survey is an assignment for the introductory ES course at the Univ. of Washington. If you can get broader response, please help. ************************ Soils Science Society of America (SSSA) Website Survey and Critique Background: Soils are an essential component of the terrestrial environment. The Soil Science Society of America (SSSA) is the premiere soils science organization in the world, and they are designing a new website. One of the goals of the web designers is to create a website that better imparts soils information to the general public. The professors and teaching assistants in ESRM 100 are closely affiliated with the SSSA, and they need your help in constructing a new website. The Assignment: Your assignment is to critically review the design and content SSSA website and provide suggestions for improvement. An objective of this assignment is to build your knowledge of soils science and how soils relate to environmental science. A good introduction to soils science can be found in your text book starting on page 157. Excellent and helpful reviews of the website will result in .1 or .2 extra credit points added to your final course grade. These bonus points will be added to your grade in addition to any other extra credit projects you complete for this course. This project should be an individual effort and group responses to surveys will not be accepted. Instructions: * Connect to the SSSA website at www.soils.org. * Explore the website, spend some time (10-15 minutes) looking at pages under the "educational resources" link. * Connect to the catalyst survey at https://catalysttools.washington.edu/survey/eschelp/42874 * Complete the survey. Make sure that your answers are honest, complete, and concise. * Surveys must be completed by Friday, October 19th. |
