| Colleagues: I am the 2007 Chair of S205.1 the Council on the History, Philosophy, and Sociology of Soils. The Council has proposed 2 volunteer oral sessions for the annual meetings in New Orleans. The first focuses on early history of soil scientists and soil science over the period between creation of ASA in 1907 until creation of SSSA in 1937. The second is titled "Soils and Civilizations", which is targeted as a follow-up to the "Soils and Health" session in Indianapolis. I would appreciate it if you would distribute the attached document to interested members within your division. Note that any abstracts for these sessions must be submitted under special session Z08 on the conference website. Especially for the first session on history, we are encouraging submissions from all sub-disciplines within soil science. Likewise, we would like to invite all S divisions to co-sponsor this session. Broad-based submissions to and co-sponsorship of the Soils and Civilization session would also be most welcome. Thank you for your consideration. Regards, Tom Sauer Chair, S205.1 Research Soil Scientist USDA-ARS National Soil Tilth Laboratory 2150 Pammel Drive Ames, IA 50011-3120 USA PH(515)294-3416 FAX(515)294-8125 |
